What the experience is like

This trip starts from a different port: the Real Club Náutico de Algeciras, overlooking the bay where international shipping traffic crosses paths with one of the most reliable dolphin colonies on the Strait. We head towards the Rock of Gibraltar, with the coast of Africa in the distance.

Along the way we sail among the giant merchant ships anchored in the bay, some of them over 300 metres long. The skipper knows this world well and explains up close how one of the Mediterranean's busiest anchorages works, as we pass just metres from their hulls.

The bay is home to a resident colony of around 700 dolphins, and it's common for them to come over to say hello as we sail. There are no guarantees with wildlife, but few places on the Strait offer better odds of seeing them up close.

We anchor off La Línea for the calmer part of the trip: freshly made Spanish omelette, ham, cheese, olives and a few more surprises, with ice-cold drinks. It's a small group, maximum 6 people, so there's no rush.

You don't need any previous experience or to have ever sailed before. Just the wish to see the Strait from another angle, with Gibraltar, Africa and the dolphins taking centre stage. We look forward to welcoming you aboard Jabulani.
