What the experience is like

The sailing initiation is for anyone who has always wanted to truly understand how a sailboat moves. In a single trip you go from watching the sea to handling it: a hands-on lesson, at your own pace, with the skipper by your side the whole time.

We start with the basics: the parts of the boat, how to read the wind and why a sailboat moves without an engine. No dull theory; you learn it by doing, with the Strait of Gibraltar as your classroom.

Then you get hands-on. You take the helm, learn to hoist and trim the sails and to perform the essential manoeuvres: tacking, gybing, sailing to windward. The skipper guides you step by step so you build confidence and feel how the boat responds under your hands.

We sail in Tarifa's one-of-a-kind setting, between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, with Isla de las Palomas and Africa in the distance. Learning to sail here, where the wind is the star, is like nowhere else.

It's a private trip designed for beginners: you need no previous experience, just the desire to learn. When you finish you take home something that won't fit in a photo: the foundations to start handling a sailboat on your own.
